Kevin was the initial test pilot for more than 75 Special Shaped UK-manufactured balloon envelopes and as Operations Director of the Virgin Airship and Balloon Company for hot air balloons and airships travelled the world, including the first Commercial passenger balloon operation in Egypt. He was also closely involved with Sir Richard Branson’s Round the World attempts.
He is a Civil Aviation Authority appointed senior examiner, a British Balloon & Airship Club (BBAC) instructor and senior inspector and Chairman of the Panel of Examiners. He led the introduction of training standards, records and manuals that have formed the basis for balloon pilot training in many parts of the world. He researched, developed and published the BBAC LPG code which has been adopted in many countries and is involved in the transition from national oversight of balloons to EASA.
