Julian Scarfe

Doug was born in 1932 and started parachuting in 1956, which means that he has been in the sport for 59 years so far! He was one of the pioneers of the sport and a founder member of BPA. He was a Parachute Jumping Instructor in the Royal Air Force for over twenty years. He qualified as a High Altitude Low Opening (HALO) instructor and spent four years on the RAF Falcons Display Team before becoming Chief Instructor for the RAF Sport Parachute Association (RAFSPA). On retiring from the Service, he was appointed as BPA’s National Coach & Safety Officer. Later, from 1982 to 1988, he became National Sport Parachuting Coach in the Sultanate of Oman. He has been a member of the British Team at eight World Championships as competitor, coach, judge and team manager. He is the holder of the Air Force Medal and the FAI Paul Tissandier Diploma. He is currently a BPA Advanced Instructor, and FAI and National judge and is still jumping.
