James joined the then Popular Flying Association in 1996 and built a Zenair aircraft and now uses it regularly, often to attend meetings of the Board of the Light Aircraft Association of which he has been a director since 2005. He has also used it for extensive touring visits to Europe. James became Vice-Chairman of the Association and Company Secretary of its legal entity in 2007. He is also `Vice-President Consultation’ of The European Federation of Light, Experimental and Vintage Aircraft. James led the effort to drafting the Association’s governance documents as well as being its representative trustee on the Association’s Educational Trust. To all this work he has brought a forensic eye, a sharp brain and an attention to detail which have been invaluable to the Association and hence to its 8,000 members. planning matte
