The British Microlight Team has excelled itself in the FAI World Air Games 2015 in Dubai. From a field of 21 of the world’s best pilots, the British Team performed a clean sweep of the medals with the other team members finishing closely behind. David Broom won Gold, Paul Dewhurst Silver and Rees Keene the Bronze medal, with Mark Fowler in fourth, Rob Keene in sixth and Chris Saysell in eighth place. This would be remarkable enough if the competition were of the normal type involving economy, precision and navigation tasks but the FAI World Air Games Microlight Trikes event is a completely different form of competition, involving a short takeoff, a time trial round pylons and a spot landing, so each of them has had to learn a whole new format of competition. They have flown the flag (quite literally) for the UK, with the wings of their aircraft emblazoned with the Union Flag-themed colour scheme, and done so triumphantly.
