Mary and her late husband, Ian, were enthusiastic fliers, and produced and distributed the Bristol Strut’s newsletter for many years, until his untimely death 6 years ago. She has taken over the task completely and for the last 21 years she has been a stalwart of the Strut, not only producing and distributing its newsletter, but also acting as the Strut’s secretary and its general dogsbody. She and her late husband organised one of the first Young Eagles events for the then Popular Flying Association, arranging flights for about 20 terminally ill or life-limited children and their siblings. She has since gone on to organise and help run 6 similar events under the LAA’s Young Aviator banner - events which have seen a further 200 youngsters introduced to the thrill of flying.
