Julian Darker

Julian Darker

Julian has been a British International FAI judge for helicopter competitions for almost 20 years.

His judging skills and ability have seen him judge all over the world - he judged at 2009 World Air Games which was the first time rotorcraft was included; he has judged at least four World Helicopter Championships, World Air Games, countless British Championships and British Air Games as well as willingly turning up to judge at the numerous Team GB training sessions.

It is actually difficult to recall an event Julian hasn’t turned up regardless of weather or country - his last overseas competition was in China for their inaugural helicopter races. He has mentored and assisted many competitors with his vast knowledge of the rules and progressed the knowledge of rules throughout the British Helicopter Team.

His judging skills and sense of fairness are exemplary, he is a real asset to not only Team GB but to international judging as a whole. Without such valuable contributions by individuals such as Julian the sport would not be as successful as it is.

Julian joined the Helicopter Club of Great Britain 20 years ago and is currently serving on its Board of Directors, something he has done on several occasions. He has assisted in the organisation of many club social events which is always well received as he owns several public houses and a micro-brewery!

He is an active pilot and has owned several helicopters, his current aircraft being a Robinson R22.
