Bob joined the staff of an ATC squadron at White Waltham where he learned to instruct before becoming CFI. After this he instructed in civilian clubs and in the 1980’s became chairman of the BGA Instructors Committee and a regional flight instructor examiner. In his time with the Committee he contributed to the first instructors’ manual aimed at standardising the instruction syllabus and methods used by the BGA Clubs. He also proposed the colour card competency recording system used by many clubs. He is currently Chairman of the Bowland Forest Gliding Club and is leading the efforts to incorporate and minimise the effects of EASA regulation within the club. For a period of 20 years Bob organised air experience flying days at Bowland Forest for people from the Southport Spinal Injuries Unit as part of their rehabilitation confidence building treatment.
