The Upward Bound Trust has taught young people aged 16 to 21 to learn to fly since 1965. Set up by the Glider Pilot Regiment, the charity has operated from Aylesbury / Thame (Haddenham) airfield as an active gliding club teaching numerous people the skill of flight.
On 20 December 2018, operations ceased as the landlords ploughed up the strip. The trustees and volunteers have worked tirelessly for 53 years with the current CFI taking the last flight from Haddenham 50 years and 1 day since his first flight with the Upward Bound Trust.
Their endeavours have developed many commercial and recreational pilots and provided support and encouragement to hundreds of people from all walks of life.
